On Wednesday, October 5, at 3:30 p.m., the City of Orlando has issued the following information to keep the community informed and up to date on Hurricane Matthew preparations:
SOLID WASTE UPDATE:
At this time, residential and commercial trash, yard waste and recycle pick up for Thursday, October 6, is expected to continue as normal.
The City will suspend Friday, October 7, residential and commercial garbage, recycling and yard waste pick up. Those scheduled for Friday collection will be moved to Saturday, October 8, for pick up.
HELP PREVENT FLOODING:
The City is asking residents to help us prevent flooding by not placing tree trimmings or any type of loose waste or yard debris at their curb that will not be picked up by Thursday, October 6.
During a severe weather event, these items can clog storm drains which may result in flooding of property and/or the street.
RECREATION AND COMMUNITY CENTER CLOSURES:
All City of Orlando Community Centers, Recreation Centers and Pools will close tomorrow, Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. and remain closed Friday, October 7, 2016.
Additionally all sporting and event activities and scheduled programs have been canceled at the City’s Recreation Centers, Community Centers, Parks and Recreation Facilities starting tomorrow, Thursday, October 6 at 12 p.m. through Friday, October 7, 2016.
CITY OPERATIONS:
The City of Orlando’s non-essential services will close at 12 p.m. noon on Thursday, October 6, and will remain closed on Friday, October 7.

City employees involved in the City’s response to Hurricane Matthew will be working both Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7.
PERMITTING SERVICES:
Permitting will be staffed for emergency needs both Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7. The City is asking that all non-emergency permitting needs wait until next week.
PARKING SHELTER:
The City will open the Jefferson Street garage starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 6 for any resident who would like to park their car in a covered garage. All cars should be removed by Friday, October 7 by 5 p.m. dependent on weather.
SANDBAG DISTRIBUTION
The City of Orlando will continue to distribute sandbags today, October 5 until 7 p.m. Tomorrow, October 6, sandbag distribution will continue from 7 a,m. until 12 p.m. Residents must show proof of residence and will be given ten bags per address. Location for sandbag distribution is at the City of Orlando Streets and Stormwater Division at 1010 Woods Avenue.
